Question: Can a 2008 SQL instance be used as the witness for a 2005 database mirroring setup? Databases to be mirrored are currently running on 2005 SQL instances but will be upgraded to 2008 SQL in the near future.

You may want to read Part 1 , Part 2 , and Part 3 before continuing.

For full documentation here is the official reference: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/t-sql/statements/update-statistics-transact-sql You can use this at the table level in which case all statistics objects belonging to that table will be updated: The other thing you may be likely to want to specify is whether the statistics should be updated using a full scan of the table, or just be looking at a sample of the rows.

In the above examples we didn’t specify this so SQL Server will decide for us.

You can find full details of Ola’s solution and download it here: https://ola.hallengren.com/ I've grown up reading Tom Clancy and probably most of you have at least seen Red October, so this book caught my eye when browsing used books for a recent trip.

Updating [dbo].[Test Memory2] [PK__Test Memo__3214EC07D3DC52DE], update is not necessary… 2 index(es)/statistic(s) have been updated, 0 did not require update. In general sampling (as opposed to full scans) kicks in when we have about 8MB of data in the table (or about 1000 pages).
